Feed-In-Tariff (FIT)

What is the Feed-in Tariff Program?

The Ontario FIT program is considered to be one of the best renewable energy incentive programs in the world. FIT stands for 'Feed-In-Tariff' and is defined as a premium rate paid for clean generation of power. Essentially, a utility company (in this case, the Ontario Power Authority, OPA) will pay electricity generators from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and micro hydro a high dollar amount as an incentive to move towards greener energy production.

The Ontario FIT (Feed-in Tariff) Program is designed for medium and large renewable energy projects that generate more than 10 kW of electricity. The FIT program is best suited for photovoltaic projects mounted on large roofs and ground-mounted projects. The average lead time for FIT projects is approximately one year. All of our projects meet 60% domestic content requirement.

Benefits of the FIT Program

  • The Ontario Feed In Tariff (FIT) Program pays up to 71.3 cents per kWh for all solar PV electricity for twenty years.
  • The FIT program will help Ontario phase out coal-fired electricity generation by 2014 - the largest climate change initiative in Canada
  • It will boost economic activity and the development of renewable energy technologies.
  • The FIT program will create new green industries and jobs.
